Decorated Paper Designs 1800 (Pepin Press Design Books)

The principal purpose of this book, as with other volumes in the Pepin Press Design Series, is to present a vast selection of designs. For this particular book, they have all been selected from one of the world’s foremost paper collections, amassed over a period of twenty years by Jacques Koops, restorer of antique books and prints, and Johannes Marcus, antiquarian book dealer from Amsterdam, the Netherlands. The designs can often be better appreciated with a basic understanding of reproductions techniques. For his reason, a short description of each technique is given at the beginning of each chapter, as well as information about the sources of the designs.

I find the red carpet a dubious choice. I really dig the shape of the sofa, though the pattern is an unfortunate choice, too.
One trend I've noticed in this book is the very heavy coloration at the floor, while leaving the walls very pale. To me it seems to keep the eye drawn down.

Decorated Book Papers: Being an Account of their Designs and Fashions (Houghton Library Publications)

Download a PDF of page 70 which contains a correction
Decorated Book Papers, first published in 1942, remains one of the standard works on its subject. In it, Rosamond Loring, collector and maker of decorated papers, explores the history and use of decorated papers in the book arts: the early history of endpapers and marbling, marbled endpapers, printed endpapers, Dutch gilt or Dutch flowered papers, paste end-papers, nineteenth-century endpapers, publishers' endpapers, and pictorial endpapers. Appendices are devoted to the art of marbling, the preparation of paste papers, and a listing of some early makers of decorated paper.
The present edition reprints Loring's text, unchanged from the first, second, and third editions, and the memoirs of Loring by Walter Muir Whitehill, Dard Hunter, and Veronica Ruzicka, first published in the second edition (1952). In addition, there is a new account of Loring's life and work by Hope Mayo. The seventy-three color illustrations have been newly photographed from the actual paper samples, themselves from Loring's collection, that were included in Philip Hofer's personal copy of the deluxe first edition.

put up the shelf today in the craft nook area. i think it looks great, and it's functional, too, as it also houses all of grace's art supplies. i also scored the butterfly at goodwill for $1.99 and spray-painted it a seafoam green.
