    round tables
  • A Round Table was a festive event during the Middle Ages that involved jousting, feasting, and dancing in imitation of King Arthur's legendary court. Named for Arthur's famed Round Table, the festivals generally involved jousts with blunted weapons, and often celebrated weddings or victories.

Downstairs in the Odd House

Downstairs in the Odd House

My Odd House is shaping up. I named it my Odd House because the scale is its own. It has a room Upstairs and this one Downstairs.

When I initially began working on Odd House, I wanted to do everything in grey. But, the house and also each room had minds of their own.

They “knew” what they were supposed to be, their life plan, I suppose, and guided my hand as I worked on it.

Regarding this room downstairs, in spite of my wish, I always felt it was meant to be soft pastel rooms…like a fairy’s room. Well, it was moving strongly in that direction until it made its real nature known. Butterflies.

The butterflies flew into the room in gangs. They even had me put in a tiny butterfly door in the right back wall so they can enter at will.

So, this room downstairs in Odd House is a Buttery quasi Fairy room. It is not yet finished, but almost there. The outside of the house is nowhere at this point.

I made the altar out of Legos because I wanted a sharp lined shaped modern piece to contrast with all the rounded softness. I intentionally shot the photo so it would have a slightly unfocused look to give that ethereal feeling one has when they see elementals and fairies….not quite in focus, thus, unsure of what is being seen.

For my Flickr groups...

Soft blue + chocolate brown: 'Parma Gray' + 'Mahogany' by Farrow & Ball

Soft blue + chocolate brown: 'Parma Gray' + 'Mahogany' by Farrow & Ball

Interior designer Scott Sanders: "Parma Gray is a soft, soothing blue that feels like the ocean and the sky — an unexpected choice in a library. It doesn't come across as baby blue because there's so much gray in it. I didn't want to paint the moldings the usual black or white but still needed a nice contrast, and came up with chocolate brown — like earth against the sky. It grounds the room and picks up the tones of the dark wood furniture."

Walls are painted Parma Gray and trim is Mahogany, both by Farrow & Ball.
